Kathmandu has a scent of adventure. A mix of different scents hit you on arrival, and hopping into a taxi at the airport and heading into Thamel makes you immediately feel that you are starting an adventure.

“Om mani padme hum”-chants heard everywhere in the streets. Many start their Nepal experiences in Thamel, booking their Himalaya trekking expeditions, and their yoga classes.

Kathmandu is a place to explore, and there are endless amazing parts of the city and buildings to see, but it is also a place which allows you to calm down. Even with all the traffic, and the narrow roads, it is still calming.

It’s the people who do it, of course. Their attitude towards others and to life. Compassion.

Kathmandu is the city of temples, pagodas and stupas. Mainly Hinduism and Buddhism are practiced, and many practice a combination of both these Dharmic religions. Religion is a big part of the daily life here, and ofcourse you feel it everywhere. You are breathing a very special atmosphere here.

I’ve returned to Kathmandu and the Himalayas many times. It seems to have put a spell on me. There’s no other place like it.
